Children’s Hospital of Colorado

This week we traveled to the Children’s Hospital of Colorado in Aurora, CO. I think it was a great way to give our guys and our staff a lot of perspective. We get cought up in the daily routine and sometimes you need to take a step back. I saw a lot of eyes being opened and it was a great way to have a team bonding experience before we kick off the season today.

A lot of guys gained perspective from being in that environment and being able to see what real adversity is. We talk about adversity a lot in basketball and how tough things are, and I think our guys saw what they have to go through is pretty easy compared to what some other people are faced with.

I am a big believer in giving back to our community because they give us so much! Enjoy some of the photos we took.

Boot Camp: Year 2

Beginning at 6:00 am Monday morning we are starting our second year of Boot Camp.  I feel like this is a great week for our program and all the young men in it!  They will have to push each other and come together as a new team for this new year.

Take a look at last years video of Boot Camp and get ready for another year of Bears Basketball!!

Coach BJ Hill’s Basketball Camp begins this week. This year the campers have the opprotunity to learn from a majority of our own players. If you missed out on camp this week then look to sign up for next week’s camp! Its located at the Family Fun Plex off 59th Ave.

Shots From the Heart

I took part late last week in the CollegeInsider.com Shots From the Heart free-throw competition to benefit the Skip Prosser Foundation. I wasn’t perfect (23 of 25), and when you draw Fred Hoiberg (25 of 25), you’ve gotta be perfect!

It was a great experience, though, and I’m honored to have taken part in such a great event for a great foundation. Prosser spent 21 years coaching at Loyola (MD), Xavier and Wake Forest. He made 18 postseason appearances and is the only coach in NCAA history to take three separate schools to the NCAA Tournament in his first year coaching the teams.

He died from a heart attack in July 2007.

NOCO 5 stops by practice

Northern Colorado 5 (CBS) reporter Anthony Keith was at practice earlier this week and got some good stuff of our guys — during and afterward. For most of you, here’s a first look at Hawk!

Bootcamp

We got a jump start on our season last week with our first “Bootcamp.” The guys in this program are tough — and I hope they are tougher now. We were up and at it at 5:30 a.m. each day last week to run our guys through lots of conditioning and team-building drills. I’m confident what we gained in those early-morning hours will push us through this season.
